Position Summary The Office of Student Orientation invites applications for a full-time 1.0 FTE, 12-month, academic wage salaried position. This position is anticipated to last six months.

The Office of Student Orientation (OSO) provides programs, guidance, and assistance for new and transfer student orientations and family engagements. The OSO shares important information with students and their families regarding academic and student services to create and strengthen their connections with Oregon State University. OSO's goal is to ensure that all incoming students and their families begin their journeys at OSU with a comprehensive, positive introduction to Beaver life.

The adjunct Director (AD) serves as a member of the Office of Student Orientation team. The AD reports to the Director and is responsible for leading all undergraduate orientation efforts on behalf of the University. The AD serves in a leadership abilities function within the department, assists in department strategic planning, long and short-term goal planning, and initiatives and unit assessment.

Position tasks 50% leadership abilities AND MANAGEMENT
   » Responsible for leadership abilities, implementation, and delivery of all OSU undergraduate (first year and transfer) orientation programs, serving approximately 9,000 students and their family members including international orientation programs.
   » Collaborates with the OSO Director on short- and long-term strategic planning of orientation programs for department and campus wide, which includes developing plans, procedures, systems, and performance standards.
   » Responsible for the assessment, evaluation, and development of orientation programs' short- and long-term goals and objectives, responding to the data of all orientation programs, and for dissemination of results to stakeholders.
   » Assist with program budget (approx. $450,000) management, including tracking expenses and purchasing according to university guidelines and standards.
   » Responsible for tracking and ensuring all students who request have proper accommodations for all orientation programs.
   » Responsible for following up with students who miss parts of their orientation.
   » Communicates with college partners on individual student problem solving related to new student orientation.
   » Responsible for developing and editing materials for orientation and transition programs.
   » Provides for student event leaders' guidance, support, information, confirmation, and attendance lists.
   » Represents the Office of Student Orientation at all orientation programs and interacts with participants, including students and their family members, and provides appropriate advice for programs or campus referrals.

30% SUPERVISION
   » Provides leadership abilities and supervision of 2-3 student leads and a team of 20-25 student staff members; training, evaluation, and follow up on grievances, and dismissal when/where appropriate.
   » Provides mentorship, leadership abilities development, and growth opportunities for student leaders.
10% DEPARTMENTAL leadership abilities

   » Assists the Director with identifying and establishing goals, developing initiatives, and applying effective problem solving for the department.
   » Determines resource needs and priorities and make recommendations to Director for short and long term planning and budget projections and management.
   » Represents the department formally in the absence of the Director, as needed.
10% OTHER tasks
   » Participates in all programs housed in OSO.
   » Participates and cooperates with other staff in efforts designed to accomplish specific program goals.
   » Serves on office, department, and/or all-university committees as assigned.

Minimum/Required Qualifications
   » Bachelor's Degree.
   » 3 years of practice working in a higher education or university setting.
   » 2 years of managery practice.
   » Demonstrated capability to work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.
   » Demonstrated practice in event planning and coordination.
   » Demonstrated practice incorporating multi-cultural and multi-perspective into practices for students.
   » Demonstrated practice managing a budget for a program.
   » practice with online content management systems, online database management systems and mobile technologies.
   » practice working in a fast-paced environment with competing needs of constituents.
   » Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal expertise.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » Master's Degree in Higher Education, College Student Services or related field.
   » Work practice in a college orientation, transitions office, student success, or student services program, department, or office.
   » Demonstrated practice managing high profile events on a college campus.
   » Demonstrated practice with international student college orientation.
   » Demonstrated practice with data, records, and touch-points tracking systems in higher education.
   » Demonstrated practice and success with program assessment in higher education.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Will include an irregular schedule, including nights and weekends, to facilitate orientation programming as planned. Some weeks will include only typical 8-5pm scheduling, while others will flex to accommodate program needs.
