Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week during academic terms and up to 40 hours during academic breaks) Lab adjunct position for the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) is an integral part of the College of Veterinary Medicine and provides diagnostic services for the College, practicing veterinarians in the state and region, wildlife officials, and livestock, poultry, and pet owners.

The purpose of this position is to provide general laboratory support, by performing record keeping, organizing/labeling specimens and reagents, and general housekeeping required for everyday operation of the Laboratory.

Position tasks
   » 30% Keep laboratory clean by performing daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks.
   » 20% Record keeping and filing.
   » 20% Keep supplies stocked and rotate stock on shelves as new supplies are received.
   » 20% Assist with organization and labeling of reagents and specimens.
   » 10% Various other laboratory support tasks, as requested. This may include handling specimens to prepare them for testing.

Additional Required Qualifications
   » Training or practice demonstrating expertise of basic laboratory techniques, materials and use of various pieces of equipment, requiring use of both hands.
   » The capability to keep accurate records and follow written and verbal instructions.
   » capability to work alone and complete tasks in a timely manner.
   » Self motivation and initiative to complete other tasks, as needed.
   » This position requires a strong attention to detail.
   » High School courses in chemistry, biology or any course which included hands on laboratory work.
   » This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » College level courses in chemistry, biology, microbiology or other related field.
   » Work practice in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Work conditions may involve unpleasant odors and handling biological specimens including various tissues, blood, feces and other body fluids.Specimens have the potential to contain zoonotic organisms. Work may require sitting for long periods of time.
