Your responsibilities

Join our dynamic team at CERN, within the Normal Conducting Magnet section, and make a difference in the field of normal conducting accelerator magnets. We are seeking a highly motivated engineer with a passion for innovation to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technology for the CERN accelerator complex.

You will play a key role in preparing drawings for the renovation and reconstruction of the magnet system for the CERN injector complex and work both with stakeholders inside CERN and with industry.

We are looking for a person qualified in the fields of mechanics or electromechanics with experience with CAD.

In this role, you will:

• Participate in the mechanical computer-aided design (CAD) of magnet components and magnets;
• Participate in the in-house manufacturing of normal conducting components, and their subsequent assembly;
• Participate in the follow-up of the metrology controls for both in-house and industry procured components and assemblies;
• Maintain the laboratory instrumentation and tooling.

Your profile

Skills:

• Mechanical design work using 3D CAD software, experience with CATIA is an advantage;
• Writing technical documentation and procedures;
• Follow up of orders in industry;
• Experience and/or knowledge on electromechanical components and devices is an asset;
• Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
• Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
• Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Additional Information

Job closing date: 17.06.2025 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Target start date: 01-September-2025

This position involves:

• Work in Radiation Areas.
• Interventions in underground installations.
• A valid driving licence.
• Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.

Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
